Everyone loves pizza! Ditch the pizza delivery and celebrate national pizza day with your family with some healthy, quick pitta pizzas! These can be rustled up in a hurry using store-cupboard ingredients and are fun way to get your children cooking and excited about vegetables!

Ingredients

  • Wholemeal pitta (1 per person)

  • 1 Tablespoon tomato puree

  • 1 Teaspoon Italian mixed herbs

  • Topping of your choice (See tips below)

Method

  1. Warm the grill to a medium heat

  2. Spread tomato puree over pitta

  3. Sprinkle over Italian herbs

  4. Add desired topping

  5. Grill until the cheese is bubbling and delicious!

Topping inspiration

Classic Margherita Pizza

Top your pizza pitta with shredded mozzarella and fresh basil for a classic but tasty pitta pizza!

Hawaiian

Feeling fruity? Use fresh (or tinned!) pineapple chopped into cubes along with chopped ham and layer with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Did you know? The Hawaiian pizza does not originate from Hawaii, the creator Sam Panopoulos who was Greek and lived in Canada and named the pizza after the brand of tinned pineapple used on the pizza!

Veggie

A great way to encourage your children to eat vegetables and to use any leftover veg in your fridge! Peppers, onions, fresh tomatoes, sweetcorn and mushrooms can be used to make a smiley face pizza! Alternatively create some courgette ribbons using a vegetable peeler and lay these on top of the cheese!

Mix It Up!

Replace the tomato puree on your pitta with BBQ and top with chicken chunks, green pepper and cheddar cheese. Alternatively top your classic margherita with some fresh green pesto for a Mediterranean twist!

Bellisimo!
